troubleshooting

There is a problem with my laptop

  • My operating system is not listed on the installation page
  • The Teamspace software made my computer really slow
  • I can't send files to other computers
  • I can't receive files from other computers
  • How come I can't drag or copy-and-paste from my laptop to the public desktop?

  • There is a problem with the server (teamspace computer)

  • It won't let me save my work.
  • The public desktop froze (server crash)
  • I can't mouse up to the public desktop

  • My operating system is not listed on the installation page. For now, we have not implemented the software to support Teamspace on your computer. To request Teamspace be extended to your operating system, email us.

The Teamspace software made my computer really slow. Give it a minute to adjust to all the new users connecting. If this continues to be a problem, try restarting.

I can't send files to other computers. The destination computers may be running a firewall that is blocking your transmissions. Make sure they either turn off the firewall, or leave it running but enable ports 80 and 29892-29899.

I can't receive files from other computers. Your firewall is probably blocking their file transmissions. Make sure you either turn off the firewall, or leave it running but enable ports 80 and 29892-29899.

How come I can't drag or copy-and-paste from my laptop to the public desktop? We've gotten a lot of requests for these features, but unfortunately they are not available in the current version of Teamspace. The way you share files isnt from dragging the icons with your mouse but rather with the filesharing "buddy list" window that displays all the computers in your Teamspace. So, instead of dragging-and-dropping across screens, you drag and drop onto the name of the destination computer in the Teamspace buddy list window.

It won't let me save my work. These machines are just like any university machine, so you may only have permissions to save to the "Save Stuff Here" folder which is found in D:. Once you have done so, you can email the file to yourself as an attachment so you'll have it. Alternatively, you can open your home directory from the Teamspace server and save the file directly to your AFS space.

The public desktop froze (server crash). Your best bet here is to restart all machines (the two servers and all of your team's laptops). Then turn on the right server first, then left server, then each of the laptops.

I can't mouse up to the public desktop. Can other people in your team move their mouse up to the public desktop? If so, this may just mean you need to restart Teamspace on your computer, or restart your computer. Otherwise try restarting both the servers and the laptops.
