Facilities

The Applied Physics Department is located in the Applied Physics Building which is adjacent to the Edward L. Ginzton Laboratory, an independent research laboratory. The Applied Physics Building contains the departmental offices, faculty offices, a reading/reference room, lecture room, and conference rooms.

The offices and laboratories of some faculty of the Department are located in nearby laboratories, such as in the Geballe Laboratory for Advanced Materials, the Varian Physics Building (where the Physics Library is), Herrin Laboratories, the James H. Clark Center for Biomedical Engineering and Science, the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, and the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) which is approximately three miles from the center of campus.

Many of the research programs of Applied Physics faculty are linked with those of other departments in the sciences, engineering, and medicine. One of the hallmarks of advanced research at Stanford is the ease with which graduate students can collaborate with and use the facilities of research programs that are in other schools, departments, and laboratories.
