Under the terms of the Budget Control Act of 2011, the federal government imposed across-the-board budget cuts that became effective on March 1, 2013. These sequestration cuts affect higher education programs, including some types of federal student aid.
Please be assured that Stanford will not be changing our commitment to meet the demonstrated financial need of our undergraduates.
Origination fees for new federal Direct loans are increasing slightly. Please see the notes shown in bold on our web pages for Direct loans and Direct PLUS loans. No changes are anticipated for Perkins loans, which already have no origination fees.
It is likely that fewer Federal Work-Study positions will be available at the graduate level for the 2013–2014 academic year. We do not anticipate any change to Federal Work-Study funding for undergraduates. Likewise, Pell Grants and SEOG Grants will not be changing for 2013–2014. New TEACH Grant awards disbursed after March 1, 2013 must be reduced by 7.1% from the award amount for which the student otherwise would have been eligible.
We will post updates on this page as they become available.
