WHO WE ARE

CO-CHAIRS

JUSTIN LAM

Justin Lam was born and raised in Toronto, and is proud to be Canadian! He graduated from Upper Canada College in 2009 and is currently a Junior at Stanford University planning to major in Art History and minor in Education while fulfilling pre-med requirements.

Justin has been involved in AASA and the API community at Stanford since his freshman year, and has high hopes for AASA this year. He is passionate about the Stanford student body and is a member of the Students of Color Coalition and the ASSU Community Board with the goal of increasing awareness and unity between the various communities on campus. He will also be leading an Alternative Spring Break trip, and is also involved with BASES, HELP, and biomedical research in cardiovascular imaging.

In his free time, he enjoys photography, reading, eating, designing websites, and spending time with friends.

KELLY NGUYEN

Kelly is a senior double majoring in Classics and Archaeology. She joined the AASA family her freshman year when she became a frosh intern, and since then has continued on as an AASA core member in 2009-2010, and an LTS (Listen to the Silence) concert committee co-chair in both 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. She is absolutely thrilled to be involved with AASA once again and looks forward to an epic (and last!) year.

When not AASA-ing, Kelly can be found reading in nature, playing piano, exploring and/or getting lost, globetrotting, and playing things by ear. She is also currently going through a really domestic state and can be found cooking/baking -- such as in her picture. Stop by an AASA meeting for some samples!

FINANCIAL OFFICER

NANCY PHAM

Year: Class of '14

Major: Biology (field of study: Neurobiology), Premed

Hometown: Springfield, VA

Likes: SLEEPING, gummies, kdramas, flood of text messages, dancing (in any way), traveling, being creative

About Me: Hi everyone! My name is Nancy, but you can just call me Mommy Pham :). I’m a sophomore from Florida potentially majoring in Biology with a possible double major in East Asian Studies, or a minor in Modern Languages in Spanish and Chinese. I love lists and spreadsheets, which makes me perfectly suite to be AASA’s financial officer. In my spare time, I like spending my time with friends and sometimes, I say things without thinking about it and it just comes out wrong – my friends love it when I do that. That being said, I have a huge heart, probably one of the biggest around. I'm, extremely ticklish and sometimes make funny noises when poked. I also love gummy bears, good hugs, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. If I were to have a family, I would have a hundred children. Or more.

WEBMASTER

JOHN WU

Year: Class of '14

Major: CS

Hometown: Princeton, NJ

Likes: Nomming good (asian) food, sleeping, happiness and laughter, dancing (bboy! kinda...), swimming, frisbee, bearhugs

About Me: Born in Terre Haute, IN, and raised near Philadelphia, then in Princeton, NJ, I was always more of a happy West Coast kid stuck on the East Coast. I'm currently a prospective CS kid who's interesting in finance and also considering MS&E. I love spontaneously singing (even though I'm not very good! :[ ) everything from Disney songs to The Script. I'm extremely fond of the blue, specifically the shade of the cerulean crayon, and of fedoras, but not of cerulean fedoras. I also like randomly handstanding, longboarding, drinking boba, eating dim sum, meeting awesome people, and playing frisbee. When asked to describe me in 3 words, my friends said "rawrs, noms, and meeps". I'm super excited to be back on core this year!

PEARLE LUN

Year: Class of '14

Major: History

Hometown: La Canada, CA

Interests: Taiwanese music, Doraemon, longboarding

About Me: Hi! I suffer from chronic procrastination, which I hope to remedy during sophomore year. My favorite hobby is probably... EATING. I tend to start meals with dessert and always have room for ice cream. Other than that, I’m excited to join AASA and meet new people in the community!

NEIL LUU

Year: Class of '14

Major: MS&E

Hometown: Greenville, SC

Interests: Dannnnnnncing (all kinds in fact, but mainly bboying), backpacking all over the world, karaokeeee (too bad I'm awful at singing) -- my music taste ranges from R&B to kpop to trance, sports sports sports (like soccer, tennis, basketball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and so much moooooore), longboarding across Stanford's beautiful campus, fountain hopping, and just staying up all night and doing ridiculously absurdly fun activities with my best friends

About Me: I flock from the strangeness of South Carolina where a 15-minute car ride could lead to a beautiful skyline, suburban mcMansion's, and even moo-ing cows and squawking chickens. Academically, I'm a "fuzz-echie" for sure. I have a lot of fun with social sciences and humanities & art, but I also really love the sciences and the occasional math when the time comes. But I'm now a finance dork that spends much of his day reading WSJ and following mergers & acquisition deals. I was also a frosh intern last year for AASA and look forward to really taking on CORE responsibilities this year =D.

THANH NGUYEN

Whaddup tricksss. It's Thanh (pronounced "tawn"), and I'm a second year Chemistry major at Stanfy. I hail from Sunnyvale, Texas, where llamas and cows and horses and tractors are a daily sight on the way to school. Now I see bikers and tourists on the way to class. I enjoy doodling in my sketchbook and destroying the English language with my own vernacular (soops awks, business caj, okurrrrrr, trololol, etc.). My life dream is to live in a condo full of stuffed animals and consume kimchi + rice + boba all day. I know that does nothing for the whole stereotype thing, but don't hate on my swag. I pretty much devote most of my time and coursework to learning about sad things. Inequality, race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic disparities, education gaps, criminal (in)justice, Islamophobia, (under)representation... yeah that's a lot of downers. Let's try and fix some of that via AASA, yeah?

HNIN OOKHIN

Year: Class of 2014

Major: Biomechanical Engineering (and possibly premed)

About Me: Hey, I'm Hnin. Just in case you are having difficulty pronouncing my name, it's pronounced as Nin. I was a frosh intern last year, and I'm excited to be in AASA again this year. Just some background history, I was born and raised in Myanmar, and moved to Fremont when I was twelve. I am a premed and plan to major in Biomechanical Engineering. I am interested in medicine and engineering... and a lot of other random things (like astronomy!). I get excited very easily (most of the time, boba is enough to make me hyper). I love to meet new people, laugh, and be happy. And, I really do enjoy long conversations!
