A part of Stanford's W.W. Hansen Experimental Physics Laboratory, the Stanford Picosecond FEL Center is the home of Stanford's Superconducting Accelerator (SCA) and Free Electron Laser (FEL). The FEL produces intense picoseond pulses of light in the mid- and far-infrared regions of the spectrum (3-50 microns wavelength). The wavelength is continuously and rapidly tunable. Scientists from many institutions use the FEL to perform experiments that take advantage of its unique characteristics.
