The Stanford Department of Public Safety has a long tradition of providing a wide variety of community services. Our goal with the Community Outreach Programs is to create a dialogue with the community, maintain open lines of communication, provide educational materials and programs, and assist residents in reducing the opportunity for crime.

The Stanford University Department of Public Safety offers a variety of exciting employment opportunities. Positions are available now under the following job descriptions.

  • Deputies - Deputy Sheriffs are uniformed and armed peace officers whose duties include enforcing state and county ordinances, making arrests, and operating marked patrol vehicles to ensure the safety of the Stanford community.
  • Special Events Patrol - SEPs are non-sworn uniformed security personnel who work part-time at special events on campus, including music concerts, dignitary protection details, athletic events, and other assignments as needed by the Stanford University community. SEPs do not have police or law enforcement powers while on duty at Stanford, their role is to provide a security presence.
  • Community Service Officers - CSOs patrol designated areas of the University on foot, bicycle or motor vehicle providing security and parking enforcement services. This is a non-sworn, un-armed security position.
  • Public Safety Officers - PSOs support the overall public safety mission of the Stanford Department of Public Safety by performing a variety of functions. These functions will include parking enforcement, safety and security, event management, as well as additional supporting roles. This is a non-sworn, un-armed security position.
