FAMILY GIVING TREE
The
Catholic Community at Stanford is committed to serving the needy children
who live in the four Bay Area Counties. There are 227,826 children living
in this area who are enrolled in the California Free or Reduced Lunch
Program (Title I). In 2007, together with volunteers from the Catholic
Community at Stanford, The Family Giving Tree helped 15,000 low-income
children in the Title I program by providing them with a new backpack
containing tools they need to succeed in school. If you would like to
participate in this backpack project on Saturday August 9th from 9:00am to
11:00am, please contact Peter Barling (peter_barling@hotmail.com). We will
be working in a large warehouse collecting, stuffing and sorting backpacks
for distribution to low-income students via teachers and social service
agencies. Transportation from campus can be arranged. Families with young
children are welcomed to bring their children to help with this
project!
