announcements for july 20, 2008

LITURGICAL MINISTRIES
If you are new to the community, here for the summer, or just ready to become involved in your parish, consider becoming involved in the liturgical ministries of the church. You could serve as an altar server, greeter, lector, eucharistic minister, or music minister. There is training available for all these ministries. It’s a wonderful way to enter into a fuller life of the church. For info, contact Teresa (tpleins@stanford.edu).

CATHOLIC COMMUNITY REQUEST
Thank you to the generous member of our community who donated the frequent flyer miles for our interns training. We are hopeful that we will find someone to help us with our second need. Neither of our interns for next year has a car. Therefore, we are looking for anyone who has a car they would like to donate or let us use beginning in September. If you can help please call Kathryn Gray (650/857-9014) or talk with Fr. Carl. Thank you in advance for all your support of our community.

GRAD STUDENT FELLOWSHIP
The Grad Student Catholic Fellowship will be meeting this week. Please note: the topic of discussion this week will not be the Scriptures, as originally announced, but rather, the Blessed Virgin. We will be meeting, as usual, on the third floor of Old Union at 8 PM. All are invited.

FAMILY GIVING TREE: BACK-TO-SCHOOL BACKPACKS FOR NEEDY CHILDREN
The Catholic Community at Stanford is committed to serving the needy children who live in the four Bay Area Counties. There are 227,826 children living in this area who are enrolled in the California Free or Reduced Lunch Program (Title I). In 2007, together with volunteers from the Catholic Community at Stanford, The Family Giving Tree helped 15,000 low-income children in the Title I program by providing them with a new backpack containing tools they need to succeed in school. If you would like to participate in this backpack project on Saturday August 9th from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm, please contact Peter Barling (peter_barling@hotmail.com). We will be working in a large warehouse collecting, stuffing and sorting backpacks for distribution to low-income students via teachers and social service agencies. Transportation from campus can be arranged. Families with young children are welcomed to bring their children to help with this project!

NOTE: If you need a disability-related accommodation or access to disabled parking behind Memorial Church during church services please contct Sheila Sanchez, Disability Accommodations Coordinator, at 650/725-0326. We have NO control over parking permits, gate access, etc.
