The Stanford Law Review held its 2009 symposium on Media, Justice, and the Law during the last weekend of January at Stanford Law School. As an emerging field of scholarship and debate, the intersection of media and the law has wide-ranging significance. The media (in all forms) interpret, report, and dramatize the law; moreover, the ongoing dialogue among legal actors, policymakers, the media, and the American public informs the opinions and behavior of all participants. The 2009 symposium focused primarily on issues pertaining to the media and criminal justice, rather than the First Amendment or media regulation, though these topics inevitably play a role in any robust conversation about media and the law.
