Music 157: Introduction to Mariachi Ensemble

Mariachi Cardenal is always in search of musicians to join our ranks. Current members of the group include Stanford undergraduates, alumni, and even members of the extended Stanford community. Before newcomers can join the performing group, they must have been enrolled in Music 157: Introduction to Mariachi Ensemble for at least one quarter. Taught by members of Mariachi Azteca, Music 157 gives students the opportunity to learn the basic repertoire of the performing group.

History

Mariachi Cardenal was founded in Casa Zapata during the 1994-1995 school year by students of Stanford University. From humble beginnings of a few members, it has grown to over 20 members and become and integral part of the Chicano community at Stanford. The members come from different musical backgrounds but have come together with guidance from professional mariachis from the Bay Area and have evolved into a successful ensemble.
