Mathematical and Computational Science is an interdepartmental
undergraduate program designed for students interested in applying
mathematical ideas and analysis to problems in the biological,
computational, financial or management sciences. For more information,
please see our introduction to MCS.

Graduating class of 2008

Announcements:

  • MCS Majors: Plan ahead!!
This year the conflict between required MCS courses for the major -- Stat 200 and MS&E 121 -- CANNOT BE AVOIDED- they are both taught Winter Quarter at the same time.
If you are not graduating in June 2009, try to take one of these courses junior year. If you're a senior, MS&E 221 is an alternative for MS&E 121.
  • Math requirements. You will have a choice between
Math 113 [Linear Algebra & Matrix Theory] and a new math offering Math 104 [Applied Matrix Theory] to complete required math courses.
  • Computer Science requirements.
    CS 103A will be offered for the last time Autumn Qtr;
CS 103B, will make a final appearance Winter Quarter.
These two courses will be replaced by CS 103 - Mathematical Foundations of Computing which will be taught Winter Quarter (5 units).
  • New electives:
CS 110 - Principles of Computer Systems [S]
    MATH 118 - Mathematics of Computation [W]
STAT 215 - Statistical Models in Biology [W]
  • All MCS students -- not just those on Biology Track -- can take Stat 166 [Computational Biology] -- offered Spring Quarter -- as a course to satisfy MCS's WIM requirements.
