FAQ: How to Get Involved with PASU!

PASU is always on the lookout for new members! Here are a few basics on joining the pamilya.

Q: What does 'PASU' stand for?
A: PASU is an acronym for ‘Pilipino American Student Union.’ If you want to know what ideas and goals we stand for, check out our awesome mission statement above.

Q: I don’t know that much about Filipino issues or culture... Can I still get involved?
A: You don’t need to know anything about Filipino issues or culture to get involved. As long as you’re interested in and open to learning about Filipino issues and culture, PASU is the place for you.

Q: Can I join PASU if I’m not Filipino?
A: You don’t have to be Filipino to be a part of PASU. We actually have a lot of members who aren’t Filipino but have come to love and be interested in Filipino issues and culture. We welcome people from all ethnic backgrounds!

Q: Are there any leadership opportunities available for freshmen?
A: There are definitely ways for freshmen to get involved with PASU leadership. The easiest way is by applying to be a Frosh Intern for one of our many committees. If you missed the deadline to apply or aren’t ready for such a big commitment, you can still be a part of planning committees for major PASU events such as our annual Pilipino Youth Leadership Conference for high school students and Kayumanggi Spring Show.

Q: I’m a freshman and I don’t think I have enough time to be a Frosh Intern. How can I meet more PASU people and get more involved?
A: A great way to meet PASU people is to join a sib family (check out our handout on what it means to be a little sib) and to just go to the various events that PASU puts on throughout the year. Don’t be afraid of attending events if you haven’t gone to any in the past. We LOVE seeing new people at our events^^

Q: I’m not a freshmen anymore and I want to get more involved but I’m a little shy. What can I do to get more involved?
A: The easiest thing to do is to just roll out to events and talk to the people there. We’re pretty friendly and really enjoy meeting new people who are interested in joining or becoming more involved with the organization. A great way to feel less scared about going to events is to get a friend to go with you. Another easy way to meet more PASU people and get more involved on a smaller scale is to join a sib family (check out our handout on what it means to be a big sib).
