SINGAPOREANS AT STANFORD

CONSTITUTION

Article I. Name of Organisation

The organization is named Singaporeans at Stanford.

Article II. Statement of Purpose

Based on a common background or interest in Singapore, the association will:
  1. Provide services and organize activities for the Singaporean community at Stanford
  2. Promote an awareness of Singaporean society and culture within the Stanford community and facilitate an understanding of issues relevant to Singapore

Article III. Eligibility for Membership

All Stanford students, faculty and staff who share the objectives outlined in Article II are eligible to join as registered members.

Article IV. Officers
  1. Titles and responsibilities
    • Chairperson. The Chairperson charts the direction for the association and liaises with other on- and off-campus organizations and offices to achieve the objectives set out in Article II.
    • Secretary. The Secretary handles the administration of the association, records the minutes of meetings, and archives the association's records.
    • Treasurer. The Treasurer administers the finances of the association, ensures that all financial transactions are properly accounted for, and oversees the fund-raising efforts of the association.
    • Program Coordinators. Three (3) Program Coordinators direct the planning and execution of activities that the association organizes, with one Coordinator responsible for maintaining the association's website and mailing lists. The number and responsibilities of the Program Coordinators may vary, and is determined by the preceding year's Executive Committee based on the needs of the association.
    • Kopitiam Series Coordinator. The Kopitiam Series Coordinator plans and directs the execution of the Kopitiam Series, which seeks to achieve the objective laid out in Article II(b).
  2. Elections and Removal Process:
    • Elections. Elections will be organized annually anytime during the Spring quarter. All registered members are eligible to stand as candidates for positions in the Executive Committee. Officers will be elected either through electronic balloting or during an AGM or EOGM attended by at least 50% of the association's members. Officers will be elected by a simple majority of votes or on a walkover.
    • Removal. Individual officers or the entire Executive Committee may be removed and replaced if found negligent of their duties. Members of the association will vote to remove officers, and the removal will be effected by a two-thirds majority of votes.
  3. Length of Term
    • The Executive Committee-elect takes office upon the announcement of election results by the incumbent committee.
    • There is no limit to the number of terms in office that a member can serve
Article V. Dissolution of Organisation

The organization can only be dissolved if two-thirds of its Singaporean membership vote to do so. Upon dissolution, the following will take place:
  • Disposition of Uncommitted Funds: Uncommitted funds will go to the Bechtel International Center upon the dissolution of the association.
  • Disposition of Property: The association's property will be designated to the Bechtel International Center upon the dissolution of the association.
Article VI. Procedure to Amend Constitution

Members of the association will vote on amendments to the Constitution. Amendments will be effected by a simple majority of votes.
