Julie Lythcott-Haims '89 is Stanford’s Dean of Freshmen & Transfer Students. She has held this position since its creation in 2002. In this evolving role, Julie takes responsibility for understanding the freshman experience and exploring ways to enhance it.
From 2000-2002, Julie was a member of the senior staff in the President's Office at Stanford. Prior to that she held the position of Associate Dean for Student Affairs at Stanford Law School. Her other Stanford work and volunteer experiences include being Volunteer Coordinator at the Haas Center for Public Service, Gift Committee member for her 10th and 15th reunions, member of the Board of Directors of the Stanford Alumni Association, and serving on numerous search committees.
Julie received her undergraduate degree from Stanford in 1989 in American Studies and her law degree from Harvard Law School in 1994. She was a corporate lawyer in Palo Alto prior to rejoining the Stanford community in the late 90s. Her husband, Dan, is also a Stanford graduate, and they live with their two young children and her mother in Palo Alto.
