FEDERAL ORGANIZATIONS
These federal organizations are related to sleep in different ways. There is a short description on how they are related to sleep, unless the title of the organization is self-explanatory.
These organizations are responsible for safety in each mode of transportation. It is important for them to be aware of fatigue, sleep deprivation and sleep disorders and how it affects safety. Every federal and municipal transportation organization should have information and training on fatigue, sleep deprivation and sleep disorders to make travel safer.
- AAA Foundation Home Page -- The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety promotes research and education designed to prevent traffic crashes. (We call them "crashes," not "accidents," because we believe that it's possible to stop them from happening.)
Our brochures and videos teach traffic safety -- how to be a safe driver, pedestrian, or cyclist -- and educate people about traffic topics such as proper use of antilock brakes and the hazards of drowsy driving. Take the "Sleeping and Driving Don't Mix Sleep Quiz."
- Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety --Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety is an alliance of consumer, health and safety groups and
insurance companies and agents working together to make America's roads safer. Advocates encourage the adoption of federal and state laws, policies and programs that save lives and reduce injuries. By joining its resources with others, Advocates helps build coalitions to increase participation of a wide array of groups in public policy initiatives which advance highway and auto safety.
