Lesbianism on United States commercial television.
Ally McBeal
I don't usually watch Ally McBeal. However, I did see the famous kiss episode between Lucy Lui and
Calista Flockhart.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
As a big fan of vampires and vampire shows, I was happy when the character Willow (Alyson Hannigan)
came out as a
lesbian. Her first woman lover is Tara (Amber Benson), and though currently split apart, we are
hoping they
reunite.
Willow and Tara did reunite briefly, but unfortunately, the character has been killed!

Queer as Folk
Showtime's Queer as Folk
doesn't qualify as a
typical USA network show with
lesbian characters.
However, this is such a hot pic, I couldn't resist including it.

Star Trek
I am disappointed with Star Trek and their lack of gay characters. This is supposed to be the
future, and yet, there are no openly gay characters on any of the Star Trek shows.
Deep Space Nine did have an episode where Trill, Lt. Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) locks lips with
another Trill, Dr. Lenara Kahn (Susana Thompson). However, since these two Trills knew each
other in other host bodies, where they were members of the opposite sex, this episode is not
quite a depiction of gay characters.

The popularity of the show Voyager was greatly enhanced with the
introduction of the character Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan). Although not a lesbian character, Seven
has a huge lesbian fan following.

Xena: Warrior Princess
"In a time of ancient Gods, warlords, and kings, a land in turmoil
cried out for a hero. She was Xena, a mighty princess, forged in the
heat of battle. The power, the passion, the danger.
Her courage will change the world."
Xena was a television series that had a large lesbian audience, with lots of lesbian sexual teases.
