Previous: Right Image Compression
A number of effective compression methods have been found for
compression of stereo images. For general purposes, DCT compression
of the reference image followed by block-based disparity map encoding
was found to give optimal results; this approach yields the best
compromise between quality and rate.
Other methods are appropriate for special needs, such as pyramid
encoding for progressive transmission or distributed error correction
capability.
