README for the Stuart Highlanders Collection bagpipe.tex tunes directory. This directory contains music for the Scottish Highland Bagpipe in bagpipe.tex format. Bagpipe.tex is a macro-package which extends MusicTeX to make typesetting bagpipe music quicker. MusicTeX is a macro-package for typesetting music. TeX is a technical typesetting language. Both bagpipe.tex and MusicTeX are available elsewhere on this archive. Although, to the best of the contributors' knowledge, the tunes in this directory are in the public domain, the responsibility for copyright violations resulting from using these files lies with the downloader. The tunes in this directory are from "The Stuart Highlanders Pipe Band -- Collection of Pipe Music". The files muscont.tex and musindex.tex contain the table of contents and index for this collection. These two files specify the LATEX format. In any case the files are legible as is. Some of the tunes in the table of contents are not in this directory because their copyright status is suspect. Files whose names begin with a lower case h are header files which put two or more tunes on one (usually) or two pages. The file list.txt is an index that tells you the file name given the tune name. All of the files are now supposed to specify the bagpipe format with a comment in the first line of the file: %&bagpipe \input bagpipe . If your system recognizes this but you havn't generated such a format, remove this line. If you have a format but not the bagpipe.tex file itself, either delete the second line or create a file named bagpipe.tex that contains only \bye . If you have trouble using these files, contact the author of bagpipe.tex walt@slac.stanford.edu .
