The Model
Leadership . . . that supports and pressures Goals . . . that are set and shared
Indicators . . . that measure success
Assistance . . . by capable others
The principal, Jessie Sullivan, felt that by using this model they could change teacher attitudes and teacher behaviors and thereby change student outcomes. Researcher Claude Goldenberg points out that the components of this model were really nothing new – ???? they were simply commonly accepted principles of teaching. The key was that the parts worked together to create a dynamic to improve student achievement. He argues that at the very least by using this model they were definitely able to create concrete and tangible settings where change could take place – people to could change the way they communicated, thought and thereby taught.
