(Same as SOC 106D.) The debate on the meaning of race in the U.S. by examining past and present race relations, trends within the emerging multiracial population, and the implications that this new population has on the significance of race in contemporary society. The growing visibility of multiraciality is seen as a sign that race does not matter as much as it did in the past versus evidence that race continues to affect people's lives including those with mixed race backgrounds.
